Frequently Asked Questions

Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step.
I offer a complimentary consultation call so we can get to know each other a little before scheduling your first session. You can reach out through the contact form on my website or send me an email to get started. From there, we’ll find a time for a brief consultation call that works for you.
During the call, we’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and any questions or concerns you may have. I can also walk you through what working together might look like, including scheduling, fees, and next steps. Most importantly, it gives both of us a chance to get a feel for whether we’re the right fit, because feeling comfortable with your therapist matters.
And if calling feels like too much right now, that’s okay! You can start with an email. Tell me as much or as little as you’re comfortable sharing, and we can go from there. There’s no “right” way to take the first step.

At this time, I am an out-of-network provider with the exception of Lyra Health Benefits.
I know that private-pay therapy is a financial investment, and I don’t take that lightly. My goal is to provide thoughtful, individualized care without allowing insurance requirements to dictate the direction of our work.

I can provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. You can submit the superbill directly to your insurance provider, who will review your benefits and determine whether your plan is eligible for reimbursement and, if so, the amount covered.
You may contact your insurance company directly and ask them the following questions to verify out-of-network benefits:
Do I have behavioral health/mental health benefits?
What is the reimbursement rate for out-of-network providers?
How many sessions will my plan cover per year?
What is my out-of-network deductible?
Do I need pre-approval or a referral?

Telehealth services are available for those who are 16 and older.
While virtual therapy can be highly effective for adults and teens, younger children benefit most from in-person sessions. Child therapy often incorporates play-based, movement-based, and hands-on interventions that are more engaging and developmentally appropriate in an office setting.
Being physically present also allows for stronger connection, better attention, and more effective skill-building.
Telehealth clients must be residents of Virginia and physically located in Virginia at the time of each session.

There’s no set timeline for therapy, and everyone’s process looks a little different. Some clients come in with a specific concern they’d like support with, while others want more time to explore deeper patterns, relationships, or past experiences. For children, the length of therapy may also depend on their needs, progress, family involvement, and what’s happening at home or school.
We’ll check in about your goals and progress along the way, and you’ll always be part of the conversation about what continuing, reducing sessions, or wrapping up therapy looks like. The goal isn’t to keep you in therapy forever, it’s to make sure the time we spend together feels meaningful and useful to you or your child.

Everyone is different, and there’s no one “right” way to do therapy. Some clients benefit from meeting multiple times a week, while others meet weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. Session frequency depends on your or your child’s needs, goals, and what feels most supportive at the time. We’ll decide together where to start and continue adjusting along the way as things change and progress is made.

Therapy with kids often looks a little different than therapy with adults, and that’s a good thing! Depending on your child’s age and needs, sessions may include play, art, games, movement, creative activities, and conversation. These aren’t just ways to keep kids engaged; they can help children express themselves, make sense of their experiences, practice new skills, and work through things that may be difficult to put into words.
Parents and caregivers are an important part of the process, too. I typically incorporate brief parent check-ins before and/or after sessions to hear what you’re noticing at home or school, share relevant updates, and talk through ways to support your child outside of therapy. At times, we may also schedule parent-only or family sessions when more time together would be helpful.
At the same time, children need a space that feels like their own. I work to balance parent involvement with your child’s privacy and growing sense of trust in therapy. My goal is for us to work as a team, supporting your child in session while also helping you better understand what may be underneath their emotions or behaviors and giving you practical ways to support them at home.
